小女凱特（蒂娜·菲），年已三十七，至今未嫁，事業成功，今年終於打算升級當單親媽媽。不料，人算不如天算，收養代理公司找了，人工授精試了，凱特這才發現作為高齡產婦，自己的受孕機率甚至...小於百萬分之一！走投無路之下，凱特不得不嘗試最後的可能性：轉投代理孕母的「懷抱」。雖然10萬美金的代孕費比僱傭殺手的價格還高，但光出錢不出力就能得來寶寶，對於工作繁忙的凱特來說，不失為簡單便捷之法。
在代孕中心老闆莎菲（西格妮·韋弗）的大力推薦下，經過精挑細選，金髮的安吉（艾米·伯勒爾）榮升為孕母人選。果然，安吉很快就「不負眾望」地懷上了寶寶。如今萬事俱備，凱特只用等著在孩子出生之前，讀讀育兒經、收拾收拾嬰兒房，最多不過提前憂心一下寶貝未來上哪家幼兒園。
可凱特的如意算盤又一次失靈！沒隔幾天，無家可歸的安吉就乾脆自動搬來了凱特的住處。可樂、薯條、巧克力...，安吉吃的全是垃圾食品，聽的全是髒話饒舌音樂，動不動就把吃過的口香糖到處亂粘，還在浴室大搗亂，本身就像個沒長大的3歲小屁孩。而對於一心想把安吉改造成「模範媽媽」的凱特，這些惡習隨時都能讓她一個頭兩個大！只要9個月，可愛的寶寶就能降臨人世，可在擁有自己的孩子之前，凱特必須先得打起十二分精神，學會照顧好家裡那個隨時爆發的「大小孩」！

After learning from the steely head (Sigourney Weaver) of their surrogacy center that Angie is pregnant, Kate goes into precision nesting mode: reading childcare books, baby-proofing the apartment and researching top pre-schools. But the executive's well-organized strategy is turned upside down when her Baby Mama shows up at her doorstep with no place to live.
An unstoppable force meets an immovable object as structured Kate tries to turn vibrant Angie into the perfect expectant mom.
