1925年，橄欖球運動剛剛在美國興起。有越來越多的年輕人開始投入到這種對抗激烈卻能展現男性魅力的運動當中。吉米康納利（喬治克魯尼飾）便是其中的代表。他也因其帶領的業餘球隊的優異成績而得名「道奇小子」。眼下，吉米正準備帶著他的球隊從業餘球場轉戰正規賽場。但贊助商的「及時」撤資，使得本就經濟實力一般的球隊面臨著解散的危險……

與此同時，剛剛從第一次世界大戰歐洲戰場返鄉的戰鬥英雄卡特拉瑟福特（約翰克拉辛斯基飾）的及時加入，使得吉米的球隊的實力有所提升。也引來了美女記者萊茜?利特萊頓（蕾妮澤爾維格飾）的跟蹤採訪。可是，很快吉米和卡特都愛上了萊茜……

Clooney plays Dodge Connolly, a charming, brash football hero who is determined to guide his team from bar brawls to packed stadiums. But after the players lose their sponsor and the entire league faces certain collapse, Dodge convinces a college football star to join his ragtag ranks. The captain hopes his latest move will help the struggling sport finally capture the country』s attention.

A golden-boy war hero who single-handedly forced multiple German soldiers to surrender in WWI, Carter has dashing good looks and unparalleled speed on the field.
